You may be wondering whether counselling or psychotherapy might help you...

My therapy practice gives you the chance to discuss personal difficulties in a confidential setting and at your pace. I am trained to help explore and make sense of issues without judging or giving advice. The aim is to help you to feel less confused or troubled, to find new perspectives, making positive changes in your life - or coming to terms with things that can't be changed.

I offer short and long-term counselling for adults at my private practice in a discreet setting in Lyndhurst, in the New Forest. Lyndhurst is 5 minutes from the M27, and 15 minutes from Southampton.

I am happy for you to make contact with me in order to ask questions about how the counselling works, and to help you decide whether you would like to arrange an Initial Assessment session.

This first session allows me to find out a bit about you and what's brought you to see me, as well as whether you feel you've come to the right place. You may decide straight away, or wish to go away and think about it.

Lyndhurst is located on the edge of the New Forest in Hampshire, within easy reach of Southampton, Lymington, Brockenhurst, Ringwood, Romsey, Christchurch and New Milton.

I have undertaken training in online, phone and text counselling with the Open University in collaboration with BACP (The British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy).

TRAINING, QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

COUNSELLING

I am a qualified and experienced Counsellor, Counselling Supervisor and Senior Accredited Member of BACP with over 25 years experience - within GP practices, as well as with a local counselling organisation, giving me invaluable experience of connecting with people from many backgrounds and with a diverse range of issues. I have run my own practice since 2006.

The therapeutic model I trained to is 'psychodynamic' but I also make use of CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) and Mindfulness techniques and use a 'Family Systems' approach, where helpful. Psychodynamic theory helps me understand the impact of early relationships and experiences on our perception of ourselves, our patterns of relating to others and our ways of coping with emotions and difficulties in our lives. A Family Systems approach helps us to think about our issues and ways of being in connection to family influences - often across the generations.

I adhere to BACP's Ethical Framework for good practice and am committed to offering a high standard of confidential, professional therapy. I take my personal and professional development seriously, and undertake regular training in order to maintain my knowledge and skills. I have been a member of Hampshire Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy and Wessex Psychotherapy Society over many years.

In line with professional standards, I have regular Clinical Supervision and am listed on the United Kingdom Register of Counsellors / Psychotherapists.

CLINICAL SUPERVISION

I trained as a Supervisor with Iron Mill college in Poole, and have experience of supervising groups and individuals. My style of supervision is psychodynamically informed, which means I will be thinking about early attachments, unconscious processes, transference and countertransference. However, I believe an analytical attitude to the work is more important than a shared core modality, and aim to offer a supportive, encouraging and respectful approach in order to promote an enriching experience. I draw on BACP's Ethical Framework to consider dilemmas around safe and professional practice, safe-guarding and risk.

WORKING WITH ANTIDEPRESSANT WITHDRAWAL

I have undertaken training with the British Association for Couselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) in collaboration with the APPG for Prescribed Drug Dependence, UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) and The British Psychological Society (BPS) on working with clients who are taking or withdrawing from prescribed psychiatric drugs or anti-depressants. This guidance equips me to support anyone who may wish to consider withdrawal from their prescription medication.
